How long does the relocation process take (finding a house, visas, etc.)?
The timeframe can vary depending on your country of origin and visa type. On average, a complete relocation process (from initial planning, obtaining documents such as a NIF (Portuguese tax ID), opening a bank account, searching for a house before the actual move) takes between 3 and 6 months. How does the healthcare system work in Portugal? Is it accessible to foreigners?
Yes, absolutely. Portugal has an excellent National Health Service (SNS), which is public and generally free (or very low cost) for legal residents. Additionally, the country has a vast and modern private healthcare network. Access to private hospitals through health insurance is very common, and insurance prices are significantly more affordable than in most countries (such as the USA or Northern Europe).
Is Portugal really a safe country to live in and raise a family?
Yes. Portugal is consistently ranked as one of the 5 safest countries in the world (according to the Global Peace Index). Violent crime rates are extremely low. It is perfectly normal and safe to walk alone at night, see children playing in the street, or do outdoor sports at dawn. Safety is undoubtedly one of the greatest luxuries of living in Portugal.

How does the cost of living in Portugal compare to other European countries?
Portugal continues to offer excellent value for money. Although the real estate market in cities like Lisbon and Porto has risen in recent years, the cost of daily living—such as food (supermarkets and restaurants), transport, sports and leisure—remains substantially lower than in Northern Europe or the USA. Eating well and having an active social life outdoors is very affordable here.
